"How much does landscape maintenance cost in Los Angeles?" is the first question almost every homeowner asks us. The honest answer is a range, because two yards on the same street can need very different amounts of work. Here's how pricing works, what you should get for your money, and how to compare quotes.
Typical monthly prices
Most Los Angeles homes on a lot up to about 5,000 square feet land in one of three levels:
- Every other week: about $175–$225 a month. Two visits a month. Good for smaller yards and low-water gardens that don't grow fast.
- Weekly: about $260–$340 a month. Four visits a month. This is what most LA homes with a lawn and planted beds need, especially from spring through fall.
- Weekly plus seasonal extras: about $395–$495 a month. Everything in weekly care, plus things like seasonal color planting, mulch top-ups and palm or tree touch-ups.
Those are starting ranges. Your actual price is fixed after a free site visit, and it shouldn't change month to month unless you change what you want done.
What a maintenance visit should include
Whoever you hire, a regular visit should cover the basics without extra charges:
- Mowing, edging and string-trimming lawn areas.
- Hand-weeding beds.
- Light pruning of shrubs, perennials and groundcover.
- Blowing off patios, walkways, the driveway and the curb.
- Hauling away green waste.
Ask specifically about irrigation checks. In Los Angeles, a broken sprinkler head or a clogged drip line can kill a bed in a single hot week. A good crew walks your system regularly and tells you when something needs a repair.
The five things that change your price
1. Lot size and slope
A flat yard in the Valley takes less time than a terraced hillside in Silver Lake or the Hollywood Hills. Slopes mean more hand work and slower mowing.
2. How much is planted
Lawn and groundcover are fast to maintain. Hedges, roses and mixed flower beds need more hand work every visit.
3. How often you want service
Weekly service costs more per month but less per visit, because the yard never gets away from the crew.
4. Access
Stairs, narrow side yards, locked gates and tight street parking all add crew time, especially for hauling green waste.
5. The starting condition
An overgrown yard usually needs a one-time cleanup before regular care starts. That's typically a separate, fixed-price job. After that, the monthly price covers keeping it there.
Why the cheapest quote can cost more
A very low monthly price usually means very short visits. Beds get skipped, irrigation problems go unnoticed, and you end up paying for plant replacements or a big cleanup later. When you compare quotes, ask:
- How long is a typical visit, and how many people come?
- Is it the same crew every time?
- Are irrigation checks included?
- Is green waste hauled away?
- Is there a long contract, or is it month to month?
One-time jobs vs. a plan
